In balloon battles, the players can pop up the balloons of the opponent, or they can steal them.

Battle mode - Battle mode has two game types, Balloon Battle and Shine Runners.

Some of the items help players to increase their speed. Some things even allow the player to attack their competitors to slow them down. The player can use items from these boxes to gain an advantage over other racers. The racing course features item boxes from which the player receives a randomly selected item. In the beginning, only two Karts are available, as the player progresses you can unlock new Kart. There are also unlockable characters like Daisy, Waluigi, Dry Bones, and Rob. Player competes against other racers as one of the twelve characters from the Mario series like Mario, Luigi, Peach, Yoshi, Donkey Kong, Wario, Toad and Bowser. Players use item-based weaponry to gain more advantages over their opponents. It holds the traditional single-driver kart racing where players race against the competitors in obstacle tracks.

Nintendo released it in November 2005 for the Nintendo DS. Mario Kart DS is a racing video game and the fifth instalment in the Mario kart series and the second game for a handheld console.
